A new calling...

On Sunday I was released from Cub Scouts after 2 1/2 years and put in as the 1st counselor in the Primary Presidency. I'm quite excited about this new calling. I've never worked in the Primary before -- other than a myriad of subbing opportunities. I got to thinking... I left home at age 17 and went to BYU, where I started attending Relief Society. Now, I'm 34 and this is THE FIRST calling I've ever had in the past 17 years where I won't be able to attend Relief Society or Sunday School! Isn't that crazy! I know people who have hardly ever been to Relief Society because they are always in Primary or Young Womens. This is probably the hardest part of my new calling -- because I love Sunday School and Relief Society.

However, I'm really happy with the presidency and excited to get to know the sisters better. Any advice for all you experienced Primary workers out there? I'd appreciate it!

Wow. I have had so many sundays without Relief Society that I almost feel like I don't belong in there. That's exciting for you. I am still trudging through in Scouts. Who knows for how long? I actually haven't been in the Primary Presdiency ever - so I don't have any advice - other than to always DELEGATE as much as you can! (Seems to work well in the other leadership positions that I have had). Good Luck.

Congrats Jennie. I was a counselor in our Primary for 3 years. I loved it! I had Brett during that time, so all my kids were in primary. I have been in RS for the last 6 months, other than that, I have never been in RS. 3 years in Young Women's and the rest of the time (about 18 years) in primary. Needless to say, I love primary. You will do great. How big is your primary? The thing with Primary is that you can move around all the time. (It makes going back to SS and RS a bit challenging.) Have fun!

This will be fun! I understand the way you feel about Sunday School and/or Relief Society, I love going to them too!

I have had the pleasure of serving in 3 Primary Presidencies and seriously, it all comes down to loving the children you serve. If you grow to love them, you will get excited about sharing times, activities, etc...

Change is good!

Čestitke za nov poklic! my first Church calling was branch PP, I've always loved being in Primary, it's never boring:-)This is my third time in Primary, I'm a chorister, another great calling, you can get as creative as you want to. There are great Primary websites and Yahoo mailing lists, I can send you some if you'd like me to.
You probably don't remember but years back when I was baptized you gave me a great advice about accepting every calling. I've been so blessed beacuse of following that advice! Enjoy!

I have to say that it was HARD to go back into Relief Society today because I've been gone for so long! I am thrilled for your new calling and know you will be GREAT!!!

That's such a great calling. I was the 1st councilor through 2 primary presidencies and it was my favorite calling ever. You really get to know the kids and I got to know the parents better in primary than I ever do when I am in RS. Enjoy it. You can learn so much from those kids.

My advice is to keep things super simple. It's kind of my advice for anything, but especially primary. I hope you enjoy.

First, it's good to see that things are going good for you since you left Sacramento. I am the 1st counselor in Primary right now so I know how ya feel. Doing sharing time is the only time during primary that I stress. There are a lot of great websites out there that really help out. (I love Sugardoodle's site) Just remember that if it comes from your heart and personal testimony, the kid's really do hear and "feel" it.
